But that whole concept is silly and here it was more silly than usual. Not to mention that their hair color is almost exclusively blue which was definitely ridiculous despite the fact that it fits well into the whole Japanese idea of hair colors being defining personality traits, in this example blue means hidden talents as is the case for all of these girls. The girls looked too cute, too young and too silly. However, the overwhelming presence of moe really annoyed me and that is the major reason why I disliked the series. Now of course the characters are okay, some of them are actually quote solid as the characterization is pretty good here. It was just your typical silly anime that is sometimes way too tween-like in its approach. Instead of being a drama, Clannad is too lightweight and sometimes verging too much into comedy territory. The premise is excellent, but the execution of said premise is very weak. Both the characters and the story left me cold. Now this is famous for being one of the most heartbreaking anime shows and because I didn’t connect with the characters, I naturally didn’t feel anything myself. The story follows the life of Tomoya Okazaki, a high school delinquent who meets many people during his last year of school and helps them resolve their individual problems. It’s no wonder why you doubt what other people in the world tell you. “ Everyday people keep hurting each other. It is the most disappointing anime I’ve seen so far.

The main theme Mag Mell is also here so don’t worry.

The Dango Family theme song is here as well but sang differently than the anime. The music in this anime could either be silly and whimsical or dark and eerie. I prefer English Dub, especially when Sunohara gets beaten up XD

The voice actor’s return, so that was a plus side. They were funny and I really like how they were very supportive to Nagisa and Tomoya. My favorite side characters were Youhei Sunohara and Nagisa’s parents.

Some of them were cut out of the movie entirely, or some showed up but had very little roles in the story. The characters involved with the story are here as well but half of them are part of it.

Personally, it is good but I prefer the anime TV version. I will not spoil the ending but I will say that the ending of the movie may not appeal to Clannad fans. This movie covers about 90% of the first Clannad and 10% of After Story, which is the second part of Clannad. The movie also tries to add another plot which involves Tomoya and his strange, never-ending dream and intertwine with Nagisa’s plot. The film follows the same thing as the anime, Nagisa is trying to bring back the Drama Club after being sick so many days and with the help of Tomoya, they will do whatever it takes to make Nagisa’s dream come true. Tomoya Okazaki, the male protagonist, is still the same tough guy as the anime but more grumpier. For example, unlike the anime, Nagisa Furukawa is more cheery and confident girl. Their personality are also changed for this film as well.

The most notable changes are the hair being shined and clean and their eyes are colorful. In this version, the character’s look and designed are more bright and modified.

The anime version of the series was created by Kyoto animation and the movie was made from Toei Animation. Is it a sequel? or prequel? No, this movie is an alternate, retold story of Clannad in 95 minutes (based on Rightstuf). Their story starts beneath the cherry blossoms, but where will fate lead them? While helping Nagisa revive the defunct Drama Club at their high school, Tomoya discovers that she has the same dreams. Then, one fateful day, he meets the mysterious and beautiful Nagisa and his world begins to change. Plagued by a seemingly endless stream of haunting dreams, Tomoya drifts through life with an almost overwhelming sense of anger and emptiness.
